Today, we have some exciting news to share in the world of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). In July 2023, JMP (Joint Monitoring Programme) unveiled their highly anticipated official progress update on WASH, drawing from data collected in 2022. This report is a treasure trove of insights that promise to shape our discussions and initiatives in profound ways. Dive into the full report here.
There are two important statistics that everyone needs to know:
- Improved Access to Drinking Water: One of the standout achievements is the reduction in the number of people lacking access to at least basic drinking water. According to the 2022 data, this figure has been reduced to 703 million, down from 771 million in 2020. This signifies significant progress in providing a fundamental necessity to a larger portion of the global population.
- Advancements in Sanitation: The report also sheds light on advancements in sanitation. In 2022, 1.6 billion people still lacked access to basic sanitation services. While there is more work to be done, this number has decreased from 1.7 billion in 2020, showcasing incremental improvements in this essential area.
The Marketing and Communications department has already begun weaving these new statistics into our digital and print communications and channels. As we move forward, it’s imperative that each of us ensures our own communications reflects these stats and updates.
