Preparing the Way for Data-Informed Agility

Mid-project Update

Prepare the way for data-informed agility at Living Water! Why are we so keen on this topic? In our Overflow 25 strategy, we state:

“We have committed to building a culture and systems that allow us to continuously listen and learn so that we deeply understand our neighbors’ wants, needs, and motivations.”

How are we preparing?

As part of this ongoing digital transformation, S&I and departmental leaders launched a new project in October 2023 to assess how we use data today and design ways to improve data-informed decision-making for the future. The “Data Intelligence Assessment and Planning” chartered project objective is…

“To engage outside experts in the area of data intelligence to work alongside internal staff to 1) assess where we are as an organization 2) map out a plan for launching a data intelligence practice at LW inclusive of elements of people, process, and technology.”

What has been happening since the project launch?

Phase 1:  Assessment

Over the past month and a half, the 501 Data Solutions team have been meeting with the full project team and several staff members to discuss the organization as a whole and walk through daily processes within roles. The goal of these interviews and work sessions was to discover and gain an understanding of the current state of data-driven processes and the technology that supports business intelligence at LWI.

What is the methodology in this discovery?

  • Request and review a comprehensive list of materials ranging from organizational charts, Overflow 25 narratives and goals, detailed internal procedures, tech stack chart, relevant dashboards, and reports.
  • Meet and learn from Living Water Staff. The project team represents six areas of the organization:

Leadership, Marketing, Philanthropy, Programs, Finance, Salesforce Administration.

Additional stakeholders included but not limited were:

Human Resources, Programs generated Revenue, Programs (Directors and Field Leaders).

The Focus of this phase?

  • Create a comprehensive list of the current state of Living Water International with consideration for People, Processes, Technology and Mindset.
  • Identify effectiveness in the organization and where are gaps and points as it pertains to people, processes, technology and/or mindsets. Address the question if you could, how would you solve it?

Next Steps:

  • The Data Intelligence Assess and Align Project Team review and refine the current state assessment.
  • A special Round Table meeting to review and discuss findings.
  • Begin work on Phase 2: Mapping

A BIG THANK YOU!

This enterprise project is not a process the project team can do alone.   We would like to extend sincere appreciation these contributors who have generously invested their and expertise in our ongoing project.  Their valuable insights and learnings have enhanced the discovery process and progress in this project.
