People Served FY24 = 850K!

The number of people served in Living Water International’s WASH Program Areas for fiscal year 2024 was 850,000 people! Congratulations to all the field staff for their hard work and dedication to surpass our target (800K) for the year.

Here are the results by country:

Some of the main drivers of the increase from 680K in FY23 to 850K in FY24 were:

  • Overall increase in outputs, with over double the number of activities completed compared to FY23
  • Addition of a new country completing their first year of a WPA (Congrats to Honduras!)
  • Additions of new WPAs in India and Haiti
  • Expansions in Uganda and Zambia that more than doubled their reach from the prior year (Well done teams!)

The number of people served in WASH Program Areas is an annual estimation of the number of direct and indirect beneficiaries from within our WPAs. This number does not include projects or activities that were done outside of a WPA and is likely an underestimation of the work across our whole organization.

So who are the “People Served”?

They are our neighbors in WPAs who supported through any of the following efforts:

  1. Gained access to WASH services as a direct result of service delivery work funded (or partially funded) by Living Water
  2. Attended a session promoting sanitation and hygiene or church and community mobilization that is led by Living Water Staff or a trained volunteer
  3. Benefitted from improved WASH services through district-level systems strengthening and/or watershed management efforts by LWI
  4. Benefited indirectly from S&H and CCM promotion efforts
  5. Received support during an emergency response.

People Served is calculated by using the entire community population (or institutional population) where projects and activities had an impact on the entire population (such as water systems and community-led total sanitation). Otherwise, it counts the attendance of the largest activity in a community during the year (e.g. gospel proclamation or S&H activities).

If you are interested in learning more about the method of calculation, The People Served Methodology was presented in the 2022 Pursuing Excellence Webinar.
